経済学の教科書でベストセラーでもあるマンキュー経済学の教科書ですが、原書だけでなく日本語でも版も変わって多く出ております。
ただ、editionや翻訳での多さからどれを手に取れば良いのか分からなくなるため、確認してみましょう。
マンキュー教授ですが、現在ハーバード大の教授で過去には米国大統領経済諮問委員会(CEA)委員長も務めました。最初に書いた教科書は1997年になり、そこから現在まで重版され読まれています。またハーバードでの学部でも、学部生向けにこの教科書の元となる授業も開講しております。

マンキューのテキストレベルは？
まずは種類などの解説の前にマンキューの教科書の翻訳のレベルを見ておきましょう。
とありますが、
マンキューテキストのレベルは入門レベルの教科書で、大学生1,2年生の向けの書籍となります。
同じような洋書からの翻訳の書籍で同等のレベルだと、同じく翻訳でのアセモグル/レイブソン/リスト 入門経済学、アセモグル/レイブソン/リスト マクロ経済学、 アセモグル/レイブソン/リスト ミクロ経済学などと同じレベルとなります。また、他にも入門マクロ経済学(中谷巌 (著), 下井直毅 (著), 塚田裕昭 (著))なども同じレベルにあります。もちろん他にも多くの入門での経済学全般、ミクロ経済学、マクロ経済学もあります。

マンキューのテキストの種類
そのマンキュー教授の教科書ですが、大きく分けるとマンキュー教授のテキストは原書では以下の2つになります。
元々のマンキュー教授はマクロ経済学が専門になり単体では”Microeconomics”というのはありません。
また、Principles of Economicsは大まかにですが、本体となるPrinciples of Economicsの他に、Principles of Economicsの章立てを少なくした、
・Brief Principles of Macroeconomics
に分けられます。上記4冊はPrinciples of Economicsの章の構成の違いだけでおり、書かれている内容は同じになります。
つまり体系的には、
・Brief Principles of Macroeconomics
と
になります。
Microeconomicsについては、先程のMacroeconomicsのようにあるのではなく、あくまでPrinciplesシリーズのPrinciples of Microeconomicsとなります。
また、マクロではPrinciples of Macroeconomicsだけでなく更に短めにしたBrief Principles of Macroeconomicsもあります。一時期、Brief Principles of Macroeconomicsもありましたが現在は重版はされていません。この辺り、マンキュー教授がよりマクロ経済学の専門であるからかもしれません。
Principles of Economicsシリーズ
それではPrinciples of Economicsのシリーズの位置づけはどうなっているのでしょうか。
ここでですが、先程もお伝えしたようにEssentials of Economics、Principles of Macroeconomics、Principles of Microeconomics、Brief Principles of Macroeconomicsで書かれていることは、全てPrinciples of Economicsにかかれています。

翻訳の版について
また現在は原書では、Principles of Economicsは10th〜、Macroeconomicsは11th〜と重版されていますが、日本語での最新のマンキュー経済学(ミクロ編、マクロ編)第4版ですとPrinciples of Economicsは8th、マンキューマクロ経済学I入門篇、II応用篇 第4版ですとMacroeconomicsでは11thまででており、直近の原書では翻訳はでておりません。ペース的に言うと原書の2,3回の重版で翻訳が1回の重版がでるようなインターバルかと思います。

ただ原書では細かいトピックが追加で重版になっているので、大枠での枠組みを日本語の翻訳本で掴みたい場合は現在出ている最新のマンキュー経済学(ミクロ編、マクロ編)とマンキューマクロ経済学I、IIで良いです。

翻訳自体は原書の重版全てされているわけではない
・だいたいペース的に言うと原書の2,3回の重版で翻訳されている
・しかしながら翻訳本でもほぼほぼ原書で最新とは大きく違わず、日本語で学習するなら翻訳本での最新で問題なし
